#28daysofyin Day 4 - Energizing Kidneys

The next meridian we'll look at in #28daysofyin is the Kidney meridian, the water element. Mmm, kidney chi, so revitalising! The kidneys are regarded as the body's storehouse of essential energy - our original prenatal energy. In TCM the kidneys include the adrenal glands, which secrete hormones to regulate metabolism, elimination, immunity and fertility. Healthy sex hormones = healthy human. These organs are very vulnerable to stress and deletion through the misuse of our sexual energy. Our ears and our brain are also related to our kidneys (your kidneys are about the same size as your ears, and a similar shape). If your ears are ringing or your memory is shot, might be an indicator of deficient kidney energy + function. We have kidney chi and meridian chi and they influence each other; the reason Yin Yoga is so effective on our energetic body is the fact that it targets the fascia and the connective tissue at the joints, the places where our bones 'meet,' which so often are the areas where our meridian chi gets disrupted. Let's get that kidney chi flowing through our meridians, baby! TCM acknowledges the kidneys as being in charge of the health of our bones, regulating the cellular production of bone marrow and white and red blood cells. The kidneys also have a lot to do with our spinal health, especially our low back, which is why we're looking at Sphinx pose today. To access Sphinx, lie flat on your belly. Bend your arms and support yourself on your forearms, stacking your elbows under your shoulders, about your shoulder distance apart. If this is already too intense, walk your elbows away from your body an inch or two. See if your feet need to be a little wider or a little closer together. Let your belly hang, your organs relax. Relax your buttocks and your legs. If you want to hang the head, that's ok, or keep the head raised. Chest can hang through the shoulders, or keep the shoulders active. See what feels good in your body. We're looking for sensation in the low back, around the SI joint or up in the lumbar spine. It's ok to feel things here - try not to get overwhelmed by fear (the out-of-balance manifestation of kidney energy). >>>>

Delete CommentCreate a nice safe space for yourself to explore this beautiful backbends. Stay 3-5 mins. Rest on your belly afterwards, or try a gentle forward fold or child's pose to counter the backbend if you feel you need it. Like the wise old Sphinx in Egypt, tune into the positive energy of the kidneys in this pose - the wisdom, rationality, gentleness and clear vision that comes from happy kidneys. #kidneys #yinyoga #meridians #tcm #sarahpowers #paulgrilley #yogaforall #kidney #yin #energy #yoga
