#28daysofyin and the Large Intestine. #colon! This meridian is a face and arm friend, so we're doing a funny little pose I learned off @tiffanycruikshank who'll I'll be studying with again in March. Yay! It's basically half gomukasana arms with a twist to the lower body, if you so desire. To access the pose, lie down on the floor, face up, roll to your left and slide your right arm underneath you, palm down, with either your right hand between the shoulder blades or along the bottom ribs (side photos). Relax your right shoulder and back towards the floor. Now bend your knees and get your feet in the floor, pick up your hips and scoot them to the right. Keep your knees bent and start to take them to the left, to a pillow or bolster or block or to the floor. Zen out for five mins each side. Pins and needles are ok. Just keep breathing and think happy thoughts to your colon! The large intestine takes our liquid waste from our small intestine via the illeocoecal valve and absorbs water and any remaining goodness from this liquid, moving it along the colon to the rectum to be eliminated. Our livers get to drop off toxins into the solid waste along the way, the large intestine is one of our major detox organs. The large intestine is responsible for the purity and balance of bodily fluids, as it is basically the body's garbage chute. It also assists the lungs and keeps the skin healthy and glowing. The Lungs help regulate the abdominal pressure in the body and assist the peristalsis of the large intestine. So diaphragm tone is important for our poo too! Do I need to say it? Breathe deep yogis! Our Large Intestine holds a lot of our grief, guilt and sadness...I'll often feel an overwhelming sadness on the left side of people's large intestines during massage, around the splenic bend. With the Stomach energy it can hold a lot of heat too (manifesting as inflammation). In balance? Transformation. Change. Letting Go. Moving On. Healthy Large Intestine energy allows us to let go of patterns of negative thinking, destructive emotions, and spiritual blockages that we create that prevent us from being our best. #yogaeverydamnday
