#28daysofyin Day 13 - Don’t Forget the Pericardium

#28daysofyin Day 13 - Don’t Forget the Pericardium

#28daysofyin and today we're looking at the Pericardium because DAMN we need to cool down over here -it's very very hot! The Pericardium is known as the King's bodyguard and it protects the heart from overheating. AND not only does the Pericardium protect the heart physically, its energy also protects the heart from damage by excessive emotional energies generated by the other organs, such as anger from the liver, fear from the kidneys, and grief from the lungs.  In the Chinese system of health, extreme outbursts of the Seven Emotions (Joy, Anger, Anxiety, Pensiveness, Grief, Fear, Fright) are regarded as powerful disruptors of our internal energy balance and are major causes of disease (this is the energy we work on mobilising and releasing in Yin Yoga and chi ne tsang, the massage I practice).  Without the Pericardium to protect it, the heart would be subject to injury from the radical fluctuations in energy caused by every emotion we experience in a day. The Pericardium also helps regulate circulation in the major blood vessels that run in and out of the heart (the superior and inferior vena cava, the pulmonary artery, the pulmonary vein, and the aorta). Emotionally, Pericardium energy is related to the loving feelings associated with sex, thereby linking the physical and emotional aspects of sexual activity. It does this by moderating the raw sexual energy of the kidneys with the love generated by the heart. Disharmony of the Pericardium Meridian is related to the imbalance of the Heart and Blood functions. The manifestation includes an oppressed feeling in the chest. Since the Heart stores the “Shen" or mental activities, Pericardium Meridian disorders are related to mania. We’re working the inner arm in this pose today to access this meridian, feel it from the middle finger along the inside of the arm, to the heart and navel. The pose is Anahatasana, melting heart, or Puppy Dog Pose. Simple to access - from your hands and knees, start to walk your hands forward, keeping them shoulder-width apart or wider, until you feel a nice stretch along the inside of your arms and your armpits. >>>>>>>Keep your bum stacked over your heels, in the air, and relax your head on the earth or try your chin or cheek, depending on your body. Really relax your body if you can, feel the chest sagging toward the earth with gravity. Let the breath breathe your heart open. Stay for 3-5 mins and feel into your big expansive heart. The storms have just started here, big purification. Thanks Pachamama! #yinyoga #pericardium #yoga #yin #yogaforall #heart #meridians #tcm #meridian #yoganerd
